Medical Facility Guide

System: Welfare

Produces: Crew health

What the Medical Facility Does

Medical facilities are confirmed welfare infrastructure — the developer's own walkthrough names "terrestrial medical facilities" first among the systems an outpost must keep well-supplied. The game does not hide that crew are expendable if you manage badly: official copy says you "develop your officers to ensure their survival", and dangerous encounters will test them.

Crew Survival Is a Management Output

Outposts Unknown is unusual among colony builders in making crew survival an explicit, named goal. That elevates the medical facility from a nice-to-have to core infrastructure: encounters test morale and prowess, exploration exposes crew to a hostile system, and the difference between a recovering officer and a lost one is the welfare layer you built before the danger arrived.

Build medical capacity before you need it. The crew assignments screen is where you will see who is hurt — the facility is what you wish you had built when you do.

What We Still Expect to Learn at Launch

Treatment mechanics, injury types, and whether officers permanently die or recover are unconfirmed pre-launch. This page updates with the launch build — crew survival mechanics are a launch-week backfill priority.
