Power Grid Guide

System: Utilities

Produces: Energy

What the Power Grid Does

Energy is one of the four confirmed production inputs every building needs — official guidance is explicit that "production buildings are getting the water, energy, processing capabilities, and resource inputs they need to succeed". Solar arrays are visible across every official outpost screenshot, and the grid is what turns a landed site into a functioning facility.

Placement and Planning Basics

Utility buildings reward planning ahead of need: every production structure you add increases energy demand, and the frozen surfaces of Kourou or the tropical plateaus of Daegus each reshape where arrays make sense. The safe pattern is to keep a comfortable energy surplus before queueing new production buildings, because a stalled grid cascades — refineries stop, research stalls, and crew idle.

Treat energy like a budget, not a pool. When you place a new building, immediately plan where its share of generation comes from — retrofitting a grid under pressure is how outposts fall behind.

What We Still Expect to Learn at Launch

Exact generation values per array, night or weather effects on output, and whether volcanic veins on Kourou offer alternative generation are not yet documented. The launch build will settle all three — this page is on the launch-week backfill list.
